Magic, Mystery, a little Whisky, and a Cat

Novel Magic: Merry Little Wishing Spritz

Let the Holidays begin!! I’m more ready for Christmas than I’ve been in a long time. Merry Little Wishing Spritz sounds like just the right combination of witchiness and holiday spirit.

A Little Witchcraft…

by Cherie Colyer

I have always been fascinated by witchcraft and enjoy just about any book, TV series, or movie featuring witches. As a kid, the 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain was my favorite book and movie. The idea that people could have magical powers fascinated me. It still does, and those who know me know I’m a big fan of Harry Potter. (I’m proud to say that every quiz I’ve taken has sorted me into Gryffindor, but many of my friends are Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and even Slytherin.) Every year, usually in autumn, I have to watch Hocus Pocus, Covenant, Practical Magic, and Dark Shadows. I’ve read Nora Robert’s Three Sisters Island series multiple times, and my YA series Embrace features witches.

Madison and her friends from the series are still some of my favorite characters. I missed writing about them and magic. Then, one day, this determined, spirited witch popped in my head. She was kind, clever, and a bit stubborn. This witch turned out to be Cassie Moore. She and her unique magic percolated in my thoughts for a few years. So when my publisher put out a call for books for a holiday series, I knew it was time to get Cassie out of my head and on paper (so to speak).

There are three rules to magic: harm none, cast not for personal gain, and keep magic a secret. Normally, Cassie is quite good about following these rules, but no one’s perfect, and one little—tiny really—spell to save the building where she lives and works can’t hurt. Right?

Merry Little Wishing Spritz is a fun holiday romance to curl up to this winter. And I hope readers have as much fun reading it as I had writing it!

Modern-day witch Cassie Moore’s cozy life turns upside down when her friend foresees the wrecking ball that threatens to destroy Cassie’s home and workplace. But Cassie isn’t giving up without a fight. She casts a well-intended spell meant to save her apartment and her job. But magic is unpredictable, especially when her friend casts a little charm of her own that has Cassie lusting after the man she desperately wants to despise.

Jack Quinn has had his eyes on Lakeside Books for years, and he couldn’t be happier the owner is finally ready to sell. He has big plans for the cozy waterfront property, but he didn’t expect to care about the store or its employees. And he never imagined he’d be drawn to a certain brown-eyed saleswoman.

Almost as if by magic.

An Excerpt!

My mouth opened to ask how tearing down the building could be construed as protecting, but I couldn’t explain how I knew his plans. And to think I let him have the last tin of peppermint bark at the grocery store. The urge to flick my finger and set the envelope on fire warred with an impulse to touch his arm and bat my eyes. I didn’t do either, but the latter thought made me—

Giddy?

No. I shook my head. What was wrong with me? There is no way I would be attracted to someone about to turn my life upside down. And he may not have purchased the champagne to celebrate an engagement, but there was still the girl who would receive the peppermint bark. Not to mention, he was too… too…

Witty. Sweet. Gorgeous.

The better to distract me with, I silently quipped, trying to keep my mind on the store and not his enchanting hazel eyes. He was worming his way into the building and me out of a home.

Even as I had the scornful thought, I moved closer. Anger flared in me only to be doused with a wistful longing I couldn’t explain. My emotions ricocheted from one end of the spectrum to the other so fast it made me dizzy. These reactions to Jack came over me incredibly quickly both now and at the grocery store.

As if you’re under a spell.
