Golden Blood by Tim Vee

In 1540, conquistador Balthazar Jiménez de Quesada embarks on a quest for gold but encounters an ancient evil in the jungles of Colombia, La Pastola, transforming him into an immortal vampire. Centuries later, as Napoleon’s army clashes with the British in 1815, a brutal massacre near Walloon births a new vampire desperate to break her curse. In present-day Los Angeles, a man with the rarest blood type—Golden Blood—enters a dangerous world where the line between predator and prey blurs, as a secret society of vampires hunts for the key to their salvation…or their destruction.
Golden Blood is a gripping tale of horror, history, and the eternal struggle for redemption, spanning from the New World’s blood-soaked jungles to the underbelly of modern L.A.
Golden Blood is the story about one vampire’s search for Golden Blood that can reverse the vampiric curse and her need for revenge against the vampire that slaughtered her family and turned her into a vampire centuries before. Set in the jungles of Colombia in the 1500s, the Caribbean in the 1700s, Europe in the 1800s and 1900s, and present-day Los Angeles, Golden Blood is a dark, bleak, and gothic story.

Has any feedback from readers inspired you to write differently?
Absolutely! I posted an excerpt to my next book in a critique group and a reader brought to my attention that I had made references that could be hurtful to some readers–specifically kids and parents of kids on the autism spectrum and those with learning disabilities. At first, I thought ‘pish posh. I’m never insensitive.’ But when I reread the passage in question, I had been. As a result, I rewrote the passage and that rewrite added depth as well as avoided the potential for bad feelings. I tend to be sarcastic and I lean toward dark humor. That will never change, but I am more careful about judgmental and exclusionary wording. My writing is better for that.
What aspects of your creative process do you enjoy the most?
I like the very beginning when an idea is just beginning to percolate. I like the discover as I begin to write. When I’m exploring an idea, I use tarot cards as inspiration and I absolutely love it when the cards are tuned in. The ideas sometimes flow faster than I can type and the whole story becomes clear with just a few cards.
Thanks for such an insight response to my question and hope you have a wonderful wonderful weekend!

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be posting my review of Golden Blood in a couple of weeks.
I avoid horror, but, gosh, this sounds good.
Golden Blood does have some interesting twists. Look for my review in a couple of weeks or look at the other reviews to help you decide. Thanks so much for your comment.
What, to you, are the most important elements of good writing?
I’ll put my 2 cents in. I’m sure the author will have input, as well. So I’m an editor and I have to mention the nitpicky details–if a book is rife with errors in grammar, punctuation, and continuity, I feel all those in my soul. Having said that, I love to see the rules played with, even broken, if there’s a reason. Really good writing, though, is a lot more than just correctness. As a reader, I want to find a character I can understand. I may not agree with or even like the MC, but I want their personalities and motivations to proceed in a logical manner–so Good Characterization is one element. I want a plot that develops before my eyes and gives me some twists and some suspense. I want surprises–I particularly like to experience all the events with the character–the more you can put me in the middle of the action with imagery and emotions and lead me thought the events, the better. So Plot Development is another element. Finally, though this list could go on for another hundred pages, I want an overriding theme–what can I learn about human nature, the ways of the world, the culture of the setting, or anything that ties the whole thing together. A moral to the story, so to speak. What is the point of this story–and pure entertainment is a good point ( a favorite quote of mine is that a book should “give a good time to someone having a bad day), but to really grab me, I want to put the book down after that last page and say, “Well, I never thought of it that way,” or “Holy epiphany, Batman, the scales have fallen from my eyes and I shall live a different life now.” At least, I want to find some deeper truth or idea that the author finds compelling enough to write an entire book about. So Theme is an element I really want to see. Those are the elements I’m looking for with I read and those are the elements I try to help clients fine tune in their books. Thanks for your question!!
Thank you for featuring GOLDEN BLOOD today.
My pleasure!
