The past few weeks nearly broke my heart. I live in an area where ignorance is king and the current administration is supported enthusiastically. My local Democrats are undercover and told me, somewhat curtly, that volunteers aren’t needed. I have limited means and a few pesky health issues, which take travel to protests off my bingo card.
I feel totally adrift.
Hence this blog.
Now I am a weird, witchy old lady who lives in the woods with cats. I write paranormally books and stories, I edit a little, and I mind my own business. So this segment of Sorchia’s Universe is therapeutic for me and maybe for someone else.

Kitchen Witchery for Revolutionary Souls
In the heart of every home is the kitchen—a sacred space for nourishment, spellwork, and radical care. If you’ve ever stirred a soup with love or baked a pie to heal a broken heart, you’ve already practiced kitchen magic.
This week in Granny’s Guide to the Resistance, we’re stirring up revolution—one simmering pot at a time.
Stirring Intention into Food
Even one little avocado is filled with magic. Your body transmutes that little green gob of goodness into about 10% of the energy you need for one day. Every bite of food you take, every sip of liquid you enjoy, finds its way to exactly where it is needed in your body. Some foods cure illness, some provide mental clarity, and some just make you feel warm and fuzzy.
When we prepare meals with intention, we weave magic into every bite. We work with the power of the Universe—the power that keeps your digestive track chugging along, the intelligence that grows and heals. That magic is baked in—see what I did there?
If you take a little more time and add intention, you can enhance that universal magic. For instance, stir clockwise to build courage and protection. Stir counterclockwise to banish fear or apathy.
Try affirmations like:
“With each stir, I summon strength. With each chop, I release fear.”

Herbs and Spices with Power
Your spice rack is a spell cabinet in disguise:
- Rosemary – for protection and clarity
- Garlic – for banishing and vitality
- Cinnamon – for speed and attraction
- Salt – for purification
- Basil – for harmony and abundance
Cook with them purposefully to weave protection into daily life. This is where, if you are so inclined, you can dramatically toss a pinch of herbs into the steaming pot and mutter your intention.
With this garlic, I banish evil from this house.
This Salt purifies this meal. All who taste it will be nourished in body and soul.
As this basil joins the stew, abundance multiplies for me and you.
You get the idea.

If you want to get more involved in activism, consider preparing an intentional snack for protestors, a fortifying broth for neighbors who may be feeling frightened, or a protective casserole for those members of your community at risk.
Whether you’re baking a pie for a neighbor, dropping off meals at a protest site, or organizing a food swap—every act of nourishment is activism.
Where can you take your witchy wares? Here are some starting points where a free hot drink or a sandwich might be welcome. Yes, we are all a little wary of old ladies bearing food—I’m looking at you, Snow White. So be it. A hungry protestor may not be so picky.
- From Women’s March, this list of events across the country.
- According to Swing Blue Missouri, a gathering is scheduled for January 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City. Transportation is available from some Missouri cities. Go here for more info.
- Contact your local Dems (and hopefully they are more responsive than mine) and see what local events are planned. Sometimes these pop up like mushrooms in response to a situation, so be vigilant. Coffee is always appreciated, and bottled water can be blessed with an intention, too.
Save Some Magic for Yourself
Try cooking one intentional meal for yourself this week. I’m baking chicken breast with the intention to manifest wisdom, courage, and healing. Want my downloadable recipe?
